Northants Astronomical Societies

Northamptonshire currently has four active astronomical societies, so there is a very good chance that in a given week there will be something astronomical going on in the county.  All four groups hold regular lecture meetings, where you have the chance to listen to visiting speakers, as well as to chat to others who are interested in astronomy.

The Nene Valley Astronomical Society (which I helped to form in 2009!) holds events in the East of the county based at Chelveston Village Hall.  The Astronomical Section of the Northampton Natural History Society holds meetings in The Humfrey Rooms in the centre of Northampton.  Northants Amateur Astronomers holds meetings at The Geddington Cricket Club.  Whilst the newest group, Stanion & Northants Astronomy Group meets at Stanion Village Hall

Whilst all four of the societies have their own websites, I've found that it can be difficult to quickly establish in a given week what events are happening.  I'm therefore going to attempt to do something on this page that I don't think has been done before - list all of the up coming astronomy events in Northamptonshire!  This information is sourced from the individual society web sites however events can sometimes be changed at short notice (eg speaker illness or other commitments).  If you find this page useful, then please let me know.  Similarly if I have missed an event off that you would like me to add then also get in touch.

Due to the COVID situation, most societies have temporarily suspended meetings at the current time.

The Nene Valley Astronomical Society is holding meetings via Zoom and these are also viewable through the groups Facebook Page.  All are welcome to join these - the meeting ID is 528-483-124. The password is 083811.

Past Northants Societies

Previously astronomical societies active in Northamptonshire were the Daventry & District Astronomical Society, the Wellingborough and District Astronomical Society and the Northampton Astronomical Society.  The Kettering and District Amateur Astronomers Society changed it's name to Northants Amateur Astronomers in the mid 1990s.
